Meet the Team: Richard, Timberyard Full Stack Developer
Richard joined Timberyard recently, bringing his eight years of development experience to the team.
“If I had to describe working at Timberyard, I’d say it’s like Kaizen. If you’re familiar with Kaizen, it’s a Japanese concept that means continuous improvement, and I think that really sums up Timberyard.”

Building with Purpose
Currently, he’s working on one of Timberyard’s biggest projects, helping to build both the backend and frontend solution for our client. His days are spent problem-solving, tackling logic challenges, and handling data migration.
“I’ve always been fascinated by how things work behind the scenes. I really enjoy the logical side of development, especially when it comes to working with databases and understanding how everything connects together.
“But I also appreciate how it all ties in with the front-end; it’s amazing to see the full picture come to life when both sides work hand in hand.”
Why Timberyard
Richard first heard about Timberyard through a recommendation. A mutual contact put him in touch with Suzie, and after a smooth interview with Suzie and Lee, he knew it was the right fit.
“Oh, it’s good to be honest. The people are amazing and very kind and so talented. I’m proud to be part of the team.
“The flexibility and remote setup mean a lot to me, especially as a married man who’s used to spending time with my wife and our two kids.
“Working from home allows me to stay close to them. I’d really miss my family if I had to be away every day. This setup helps me keep a healthy balance between work and family life.
“But also, the culture. Everyone is kind, skilled, and I’ve learned a lot from the team, especially Lee. The agile process, the stand-ups, the collaboration. I love how aligned and organised everything is.”

Music, Mindset, and Code
He values open communication and constant learning, both of which are at the heart of Timberyard’s culture.
“If I had to choose one word, it would be empowering. The culture here gives you room to learn, contribute, and find balance. Both at work and at home.”
Outside of work, Richard has a creative side. He loves to play guitar and even has a YouTube channel.
“I just play guitar, record it, and upload it. Some people started subscribing, which is nice! I’m also part of the music team at my Church. Sometimes, if I’m working, I’ll take a short break, play for 1-15 minutes, and then get back to work. It helps me reset.”
For Richard, music and coding share a common thread. Both require patience, focus, and constant improvement.
